The Problem
A local engineering firm was contracted to launch a complete redesign of an existing product. The product was a complex box build assembly comprised of 6 printed circuit board assemblies.
The Solution
Surmotech and a design firm worked together to provide comprehensive design for manufacturing, and define and devise complex final test procedures. Surmotech along with incumbent CM was engaged to build the first five units, with a follow-on order of 100 units to prove out the design. Surmotech also implemented an electronic pull system to better predict volume fluctuations. In the end, Surmotech was awarded the majority of the production order based on our initial yield and quality score.
The Result
Surmotech was instrumental in creating a repeatable, manufacturable process with consistent quality and a reduced cost. We continued to support this product for years with regular, monthly releases.
